Installation of Solar Energy at Don Bosco Hospitality Centre-Kigali

The Salesians of Don Bosco in Rwanda are very thankful to Missioni Don Bosco Turin for their vital support of the Solar System Installation Project at the Don Bosco Hospitality Center in Gatenga. This initiative is designed to provide a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solution while fostering educational opportunities for marginalized youth in the community.

According to the Director of the Planning and Development Office, Father Servilien UFITAMAHORO, the project has already achieved significant milestones, including the successful procurement and delivery of solar PV modules, inverters, batteries, and MPPTs. Installation is well underway, with eight solar panels currently covering a total area of 108,800 cm². The team is now focused on system integration, which involves final electrical connections, testing, and monitoring to ensure the system meets all objectives.

The impact of this project extends beyond just providing power; it is a strategic move toward sustainable budgeting.

By significantly reducing utility costs and decreasing the center’s reliance on expensive diesel generators and oil, the saved funds will be redirected to purchase essential didactic materials.

This enables the center to invest in innovative teaching tools and practical training opportunities, directly benefiting approximately 520 students from various trades.

Key beneficiaries include youth aged 16 to 21, who gain practical knowledge in electrical systems and culinary skills.

Beyond the economic benefits, the initiative aligns with Rwanda’s national green goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a “Green Culture” among the youth. This empowers students for future careers in the clean energy sector and encourages environmental responsibility.
