EMPOWERING TOMORROW’S LEADERS: Guild Council and Councilors Undergo Intensive Leadership Training at Don Bosco VTC Bombo
BOMBO – In a vibrant effort to equip student leaders with essential management and life skills, Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Bombo hosted an intensive Guild Council Leadership Training workshop on Friday, June 12, 2026.
The day-long workshop brought together the institution’s top student leadership, including Ministers and class Councilors. Despite a slightly delayed start, the energy remained high, and the facilitators successfully navigated a comprehensive, highly impactful agenda.
Welcome and Opening Remarks
The training commenced with an opening address from the Guild President, Mr. Sserubega Michael. In his remarks, Michael warmly welcomed the participants and candidly noted that while the training was long overdue, its timing was absolutely vital for their growth as young, emerging leaders.
Following the president, the Guild Patron, Mr. Egesa Stephen, took the floor to welcome both the core Guild Council members and the class representatives (councilors). He extended his sincere gratitude to the School Administration for greenlighting the workshop and providing the crucial logistical support needed to make the day a reality.
Core Pillars of Leadership: Topics & Facilitators
The training featured a powerhouse lineup of facilitators who unpacked the foundational elements of effective governance and personal growth. The core modules included:
- Personal Development & Qualities of a Good Leader Facilitated by Ms. Naturinda Edith. She led two vital sessions, focusing first on how individual growth precedes public leadership, followed by an interactive breakdown of the essential traits such as integrity, empathy, and accountability that define a great leader.
- Responsibilities Facilitated by Mr. Egesa Stephen The Guild Patron who also doubles as the job service officer (JSO) took the leaders through the granular realities of their roles, detailing the specific duties expected of them to ensure smooth day-to-day student governance.
- Leadership & Governance Facilitated by Mr. Ajena Amulam. He provided structural insights into how organizations operate, teaching the student body how to govern democratically, maintain order, and respect institutional frameworks.
Guidance from the Top: The Principal’s Closing Charge
The workshop concluded with a powerful and legally grounding closing address from the Principal, Rev. Fr. Turabanye Jean Piere, who shared both commendations and constructive challenges for the student leaders.
The principal began by praising the Guild Patron for his stellar leadership and for organizing such a seamless and amazing workshop. Transitioning into mentorship mode, the Principal left the council with several invaluable keys to success:
Vision & Legacy: “Always have a clear plan and a distinct purpose for any activity you undertake. Look back at the former leadership, but learn only from their positives so that you can build on their successes and do even better.”
He also emphasized several operational rules of thumb:
- Communication Channels: The council was strictly urged to always follow the correct, established channels of communication within the institution to avoid misunderstandings.
- The “Go-Between” Role: Fr. Turabanye Jean Piere reminded the student leaders that they occupy a unique middle ground they are expected to act as bridges, connecting the student body to the administration while also fairly representing and standing up for the school’s administrative policies.
- A Dose of Reality: Addressing areas where the current council has historically been less effective, the Principal offered a gentle reality check: “Do not have high expectations of absolute support from all students. Not everyone will back you, and managing that reality is part of true leadership.”
With the completion of this timely workshop, the student leaders of Don Bosco VTC Bombo stand better equipped, unified, and ready to serve their community with renewed purpose.
