Laudato Si’ Green Initiative Extends Environmental Education Campaign to Youth in Huye
HUYE, Rwanda — The Laudato Si’ Green Initiative, an environmental education and action campaign being implemented across Rwanda, has continued its outreach activities with young people in Mukura Sector, Huye District, in the Southern Province.
Supported by Misiones Salesianas (Madrid, Spain), the initiative is being implemented by the Salesian Planning and Development Office (PDO) through Don Bosco Youth Education for All (DBYEA), a non-governmental organization supporting youth development and education.
The campaign seeks to empower young people with knowledge and practical skills to care for the environment and respond to the growing challenges of environmental degradation and climate change.
Bringing Environmental Education to Young People
The outreach and educational campaign in Mukura Sector forms part of the broader implementation of the Laudato Si’ Green Initiative across Rwanda. Through educational sessions and community engagement, the initiative encourages young people to understand their responsibility in protecting the environment and caring for what Pope Francis describes in his encyclical Laudato Si’ as our common home.
The campaign promotes the connection between environmental awareness and concrete action, encouraging young people to become active participants in environmental conservation within their schools, families and communities.

By bringing the initiative to different locations across Rwanda, the Salesian Planning and Development Office, through DBYEA, aims to strengthen youth participation in environmental protection and foster a culture of responsibility for present and future generations.
A Nationwide Salesian Environmental Initiative
The Laudato Si’ Green Initiative is being rolled out across Don Bosco centres and surrounding communities in Rwanda, with young people serving as important participants in the campaign.
The initiative combines educational outreach with practical environmental activities, including tree planting, environmental conservation and support to Green Clubs. These activities are designed to help young people translate environmental knowledge into actions that benefit their communities.
Misiones Salesianas, based in Madrid, Spain, is supporting the implementation of the initiative, while the Salesian Planning and Development Office is coordinating its delivery through Don Bosco Youth Education for All.
The continued outreach in Mukura Sector reflects the partners’ commitment to extending environmental education to more young people and strengthening the role of youth in caring for the environment.
As the campaign progresses, the initiative continues to encourage young people across Rwanda to take practical steps towards protecting their common home.
