Don Bosco Gatenga Distributes Toolkits to Youth Graduates, thanks to “Gender Matters for Green TVET” Project

GATENGA, KIGALI, July, 2026— The Don Bosco Gatenga Technical Secondary School in Kigali distributed professional toolkits to youth graduates from its Technical Training programs.
The activity was conducted under the “Gender Matters for Green TVET” project, supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt. The Project is implemented by the Salesians of Don Bosco through the Planning and Development Office.
The toolkit distribution targeted graduates from departments including Electrical Technology and Plumbing. Each graduate received a complete set of tools to enable them to start small businesses or join the workforce immediately.
Speaking at the event, school officials said the initiative is aligned with Don Bosco’s mission of equipping young people with both skills and the means to earn a dignified living, while advancing green and inclusive TVET.

“This toolkit is more than equipment for me. It is the key to start my own work. I thank Don Bosco Gatenga and our partners for believing in us and giving us the chance to use our skills to support ourselves and our families.” Said Ms. Ingabire Francine, Finalist in Electrical Technology
“Many people think plumbing is only for men, but I am proud to be a female plumber. This toolkit gives me confidence to start my business and show that women can also do this work professionally.” Ms. Tuyishime Rebecca, Finalist in Plumbing added.
Speaking at the Event, Ms. Uzamureba Clementine, Gender Officer at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS explained that “Under the ‘Gender Matters for Green TVET’ project, we are ensuring that both boys and girls have equal access to tools and opportunities. Skills have no gender, and we are proud to see young women leading in technical trades.”
For Mr. Dieudonne Kwizera, Job Service Officer, “Training is step one. The toolkit is step two. With these tools, our graduates can immediately enter the market as self-employed technicians. This project directly addresses youth unemployment and promotes green jobs.”

Reflecting on the mission of the institution, Fr. Callixte Ukwitegetse, School Director of Don Bosco Gatenga TSS, emphasized the dual commitment to skill acquisition and dignified employment. ‘We thank the Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt for supporting this initiative,’ he stated. ‘Don Bosco taught us to give young people not only skills but also the means to work with dignity. These toolkits are a sign of hope.’ He added.
A total of 166 students, including 62 girls and 104 boys, completed technical studies at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS this year (2026).
From this group, 26 students = 24 girls and 2 boys received professional toolkits during the empowerment event under the _“Gender Matters for Green TVET”_ project.
The support focused on Electrical technology and Plumbing, trades traditionally dominated by men.
