Breaking Gender Stereotypes: Don Bosco Buterere TVET school Promotes Inclusion for Girls in Technical Trades
On March 8th of every year, the entire world celebrates International Women’s Day. In Burundi, this year, the day was celebrated under the theme: “The Role of Women in Promoting Rights and Justice for All.” It is within this framework that the DON BOSCO BUTERERE (Don Bosco Buterere Vocational Training Center), in collaboration with the Works of Don Bosco in Burundi and supported by DBTA (Don Bosco Tech Africa), organized a day rich in ceremonies this Monday, March 9, 2026. The event aimed to break gender stereotypes in technical professions and promote the inclusion of girls in sectors often perceived as exclusively masculine.
In his welcome address, Mr. Claude NSENGIYUMVA, the DBTA contact person in Burundi, emphasized that organizing such a day at the CFP aligns with DBTA’s objectives, which promote many initiatives aimed at increasing the number of female apprentices in various vocational training sectors.
A visit to the workshops for a demonstration of skills by the girls learning different trades, a series of testimonials from CFP graduates, and speeches by various authorities were on the agenda.
