Uganda: Teachers of Don Bosco Vocational Centre Bombo Get Laptops

By: John Paul M. MUGISHA

On 15th November 2022 Don Bosco Vocational Centre-Bombo gave new laptops to teachers who did not have them. This distribution is in line with One Laptop per Teacher Initiative that has existed for three years in the institution. It is also in line with the implementation of the E-learning Project that is taking shape in Teaching and Learning at the centre.

Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre-Bombo under support of Planning and Development Office-AGL and different benefactors has started the project of integration of ICT in teaching and learning in its all vocational and technical programmes.

Equipping all teachers with ICT tools will boost and quicken the process. E- Learning has recently been recommended by the Government of Uganda as one way of improving vocational education and reaching a rapidly increasing number of learners.

This programme will considerably reduce the cost of training without affecting the quality and this will help Salesians to reach out to poor and vulnerable groups. The Don Bosco E-Learning Platform under construction is due to be ready in December 2022.

Reverend Father Joseph CAT, the Principal of the centre urged teachers and instructors to use given laptops for the development of the institution and their personal training for updated content and methods. Teachers who received laptops expressed their gratitude to the Salesians and their benefactors and promised to improve their teaching and service delivery.
