Salesians of Don Bosco Launch Music School at Palabek Refugee Settlement, Uganda
Palabek Refugee Settlement, Uganda – July 10, 2025 — The Salesians of Don Bosco in the Africa of the Great Lakes Province (AGL-Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda) have officially inaugurated a new Music School at the Youth Center in Palabek Refugee Settlement, Uganda. This initiative, supported by Missioni Don Bosco Turin Italy, marks the second phase dedicated to empowering and uplifting young refugees through education and creative expression.
The Music School aims to provide refugee youth with a platform to nurture their musical talents, boost their confidence, and foster a sense of community amidst challenging circumstances. The project highlights the ongoing commitment of the Salesians of Don Bosco to build hope and meaningful opportunities for displaced children and adolescents.
“Music has the power to heal, motivate, and unify,” said Brother Hubert Twagirayezu, the Economer of the Don Bosco Community in Palabek. “Through this initiative, we are not just teaching notes and rhythms but instilling hope and resilience among young refugees. It’s a step towards a brighter future where they can express themselves and realize their potential.”

Brother Hubert emphasized the importance of such programs during times of hardship. “Our mission is to serve the youth, especially those who have lost everything. Music provides a safe space for creativity and healing, helping them to overcome adversity with joy and purpose.”
The Palabek Refugee Settlement has seen numerous projects by the Salesians of Don Bosco aimed at improving the lives of its residents. With the addition of the Music School, the community continues to witness positive transformations, inspiring hope and resilience among its young people.
The project underscores the Salesians’ ongoing efforts to build a supportive environment where refugees can develop skills, find purpose, and aspire to a better tomorrow.
