Salezjański Wolontariat Brings Smiles to Vulnerable Children in Sahera, Rwanda
Sahera, Rwanda – In a heartwarming effort to uplift the spirits of vulnerable children facing the harsh realities of poverty, Salezjański Wolontariat Misyjny MŁODZI ŚWIATU, in collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco, is making significant strides to bring hope and joy to the lives of over 300 children in Sahera.
It is heartbreaking to witness these defenseless children threatened by poverty, which casts a shadow over their futures. Yet, it is also a source of joy to see their laughter when they find a bit of comfort. The mission of Salezjański Wolontariat emphasizes the importance of caring for these little angels, reaffirming that all children deserve support from those with compassionate hearts.
Every weekend and during holidays, the children participate in various activities at the Salesian Oratory, where they develop skills and build friendships. However, many of these children face significant challenges, including poor hygiene, inadequate access to resources, and food insecurity. For some, a lack of school supplies hampers their ability to attend school.
Despite the difficulties, the collaboration among the Oratory leaders has allowed these children to engage in recreational activities that bring them happiness and a sense of belonging. Recent support from Salezjański Wolontariat has enabled the distribution of essential items such as food, hygiene products, and school supplies, bringing smiles to the faces of many children.
“It’s difficult to help everyone without sufficient resources, yet seeing the children laugh is a constant reminder of why we do this work,” said Father Bashemezimana Thierry, Coordinator of the Kabuga Children’s Center in Sahera. “While we have been able to assist around 150 children, it’s clear that more than half of them still require support.”
The management of Kabuga Children’s Center, unwavering in their commitment, assures that they do everything possible to provide for these children, progressing step by step according to their abilities. However, the need continues to grow, and there is a desire to expand the center to better serve the increasing number of children and to provide a safe space that also emphasizes proper hygiene.
With support from international partners like Salezjański Wolontariat, there is hope that we can continue to bring smiles to these children’s faces, nurturing their potential and ensuring they do not lose sight of their dreams.
