Palabek: Salesians of Don Bosco spreading Hope to YOUNG Refugees through TVET Education

Salesians of Don Bosco in Palabek Refugee Camp which is located in Uganda are helping South Sudanese refugees to regain hope by offering them with technical education and vocational training.

This could not be possible without donors’ support.

Most of the young people and adults that are enrolled in the DON BOSCO PALABEK VTC had no other means to support their education.

However, with the support from donors, Salesians of Don Bosco are able to train the young people so that they can get necessary skills to shape their future.

On January 31, 2019, during the feast day of Don Bosco, the Salesian Province of Africa Great Lakes (AGL) inaugurated a Center for Vocational Training (VCT) in the refugee camp of Palabek, in the north of Uganda, where a Salesian community lives permanently among refugees, assisting them daily.

The camp is home to refugees fleeing civil war and violence in South Sudan.

For 3 years now, the Don Bosco Vocational Center in the Palabek refugee camp has offered courses in mechanics, sewing, construction, agriculture, hairdressing, and solar energy.

The center has become a true oasis for Palabek’s 59,000 refugees and 11,000 Ugandans from the northern region. A place where young people also nurture themselves to deep human and Christian values.
