Five-Day Life Skills Training Hosted at Don Bosco Hospitality Centre in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda – A transformative five-day training program took place at the Don Bosco Hospitality Centre, aimed at enhancing the skills of staff from three Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools: Don Bosco Gatenga TSS, Don Bosco Muhazi TVET School, and Don Bosco Rango TSS. The event also included members of the Planning and Development Office (PDO), focusing on vital life skills essential for personal and professional growth. The Training was sponsored through Don Bosco Tech Africa, as the Coordinating body of the Salesian TVET Centres in Africa
Participants began their training with an exploration of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. They engaged in discussions surrounding personal strengths and weaknesses, emphasizing the importance of reflecting on their thoughts and behaviors. This foundational section aimed to foster an understanding of oneself, a key component for effective interaction in various settings.
Communication was a focal point in the second section, where staff members developed their ability to express thoughts confidently in group settings. Through interactive exercises, participants practiced active listening skills and learned techniques for resolving conflicts, enhancing their interpersonal skills critical for teamwork and collaboration.
Decision-making and critical thinking sessions encouraged participants to tackle the complexities of making informed choices. Trainees discussed the steps to take when faced with difficult decisions and what factors should be considered before making important choices. This segment aimed to equip the staff with the tools necessary to navigate their professional and personal dilemmas effectively.
Addressing stress and emotional management, participants reflected on their common sources of stress and engaged in discussions on stress management strategies. Additionally, the section covered behavior and attitude changes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive mindset in stressful situations.

The final section focused on the importance of setting personal and professional goals. Participants learned how to prioritize tasks effectively within their daily routines, creating actionable plans to achieve their objectives. This segment equipped the attendees with essential time management skills that are crucial for productivity.
The five-day training concluded with participants sharing their insights and commitments to applying the skills learned in their respective schools and offices. The initiative reflects Don Bosco’s dedication to developing not just vocational skills but also the life skills necessary for well-rounded personal and professional development.
As the staff return to their roles, they carry with them the tools to foster a more supportive and effective learning environment, ultimately benefiting the students they serve.
