Empowering Refugees through Sustainable Farming in Palabek

Palabek Refugee Settlement, March 19, 2025 – In a significant initiative to support refugees in need, the Salesians of Don Bosco are facilitating sustainable agriculture in the Palabek Refugee Settlement. Their program operates on a 100-acre farm, which is made available to local farmers, with a special focus on aiding refugees.

Each participating farmer is allocated one acre of land to cultivate and farm. As part of the support, the Salesians provide seeds for planting and assist with the ploughing process. Once these foundational steps are completed, the farmers manage their crops through standard agricultural practices.

The goal of this initiative is to enhance food security for vulnerable families and improve their overall standard of living. By engaging in organic agriculture, these farmers are not only securing their own food supplies but are also working towards achieving sustainable livelihoods in their new community.

As the farming season approaches, the farmers are diligently preparing their gardens, ready to plant and reap the benefits of their hard work. The Salesians of Don Bosco continue to play a vital role in empowering refugees, helping them cultivate not just crops, but also hope for a brighter future.
