Don Bosco Gatenga TSS Strengthens Gender Mainstreaming Through Policy Roll-Out

Kigali, Rwanda – 16 September 2026: Don Bosco Gatenga Technical Secondary School (TSS) conducted a Gender Policy Roll-Out session for trainers and staff, aimed at strengthening understanding and practical application of gender-responsive approaches within the institution.

The session was facilitated by Mrs. Uzamureba Clementine, Gender Officer, who introduced participants to key concepts including gender and sex, gender roles, gender equality, gender equity, gender balance, gender inclusivity, and intersectionality.

The session provided an interactive platform for trainers and staff to discuss the relevance of gender policy in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Mr. Felix, Welding Trainer, encouraged participants to reflect on why gender policy is important in technical schools, while Mr. Jean Luc, Electrical Trainer, emphasized the role of trainers in preparing students to become responsible contributors to an inclusive future society.

The discussions highlighted the importance of creating a learning environment where female and male students have equal opportunities to participate, develop their technical skills, and reach their full potential. The session also emphasized gender-inclusive practices in teaching and assessment.

The activity forms part of the Gender Matters for Green TVET initiative at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS, supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation through The Jugend Eine Welt, which is working  to promote gender-responsive and inclusive practices in TVET in Rwanda and Uganda.

Through this initiative, Don Bosco Gatenga TSS continues to strengthen the capacity of its trainers and staff to integrate gender considerations into education and training, contributing to a more inclusive learning environment and a future workforce in which both women and men can participate and contribute equally.
