Don Bosco VTC Bombo Graduates Equipped For the Green TVET Future

BOMBO, LUWERO DISTRICT — Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Bombo celebrated a landmark event on Saturday, November 8, 2025, as it released a highly skilled cohort of 80 graduates (49 male and 31 female) into the Ugandan workforce.

The vibrant graduation ceremony, attended by over 300 people at the institution’s main campus, highlighted the success of students across various technical disciplines, emphasizing the critical role of Green TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) in national development.

The ceremony was made possible through crucial external support, with primary funding secured from the Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt. This support is integral to the broader, four-year Gender Matters for Green TVET programme (2023–2026), which is currently implemented across five Don Bosco TVET Centres in Uganda and Rwanda.

High-Level Recognition and Partnership

The event attracted a distinguished array of guests who affirmed the strong institutional and government endorsement of vocational training. The Chief Guest was Muwanga Alfred Salongo, whose participation underscored the recognition of practical skills at a high level.

Key partners and local political leaders present included:

  • Brother John Njugunafrom Don Bosco Tech Africa in Nairobi, who represented the wider AGL Salesian network.
  • The local government was notably represented by  Osiman Kassimu Ramathan, the Bombo Town Mayor, and the Local Council I Chairman for Namaliga West, Luwero District, showcasing strong community pride.
  • SENDEA Uganda Ltdsent a representative to champion the Green TVET
  • Representatives from various Student Sponsoring Organisationswere also in attendance, highlighting the essential role external partners play in making these educational pathways accessible to vulnerable youth.

Toolboxes Awarded: Equipping Top Performers

A powerful moment of the ceremony was the recognition of the 10 best-performing graduates. In a clear endorsement of entrepreneurship, these top students graduating from courses including Solar, Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Agriculture were each awarded a comprehensive toolbox.

This tangible gift serves as vital starting capital, enabling the graduates to immediately transition from students to independent service providers. The message was clear: Don Bosco VTC not only imparts knowledge but actively equips its students to earn a living from day one.

The institution’s vision is guided by the dedicated leadership of Fr. Jean Pierre TURABANYE, the Principal, and Mr. Ajena Amulam, the Academic Registrar. Their combined efforts focus on maintaining high standards while ensuring the curriculum remains responsive to the dynamic demands of the labour market, particularly in green technology.

The 2025 graduation was a compelling affirmation that investment in vocational training is the most direct route to youth empowerment and sustainable national development. The graduates now move forward with the necessary tools and knowledge to build a greener, more resilient future for themselves and their communities.
