Construction of New Administration Block Progresses at Don Bosco VTC Palabek

Palabek, Uganda — Construction of a new administration block at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre (VTC) Palabek is progressing steadily, with the first phase of the project now completed and work on the walls underway.

The project was officially launched in June in the presence of representatives from the AGL Province in Kigali, Rwanda, engineers from BuildMax Construction Company Ltd, district representatives, and members of the Don Bosco VTC Palabek community.

The construction project was planned to be implemented in three main phases: construction of the ground floor, raising of the walls, and installation of the roof. Following the launch, BuildMax Construction Company Ltd began the first phase by mobilizing and importing construction materials, marking the site, and subsequently excavating and laying the foundation.

Beyond providing a new and much-needed administration facility, the project is also creating opportunities for members of the local community to participate directly in the construction process. Skilled local workers, including former students of Don Bosco VTC Palabek, have been engaged in various activities, allowing them to earn an income while putting their vocational skills into practice.

The construction experienced a temporary delay but later resumed, allowing the first phase to reach completion approximately two weeks ago. Work on raising the walls began immediately after the completion of the ground floor.

The progress has been welcomed by the Don Bosco VTC Palabek community, which expressed gratitude to everyone contributing to the project. Appreciation has been extended to the project’s leadership, including Director Fr. Jose Ubaldino Andrade, Deputy Principal Fr. Diomede Njimbere, the Salesians serving in the St. Kizito Salesian Community in Palabek, engineers from BuildMax Construction Company Ltd, VTC staff, and other collaborators.

As construction enters its second phase, the engineering team has called for continued support and collaboration to ensure the project progresses successfully.

For local community members participating in the construction, the project has also become an opportunity for economic empowerment and skills development. Through their involvement, workers are gaining practical experience while earning income that helps them meet their daily needs and improve their livelihoods.

The community members expressed appreciation to BuildMax Construction Company Ltd and Don Bosco VTC Palabek for providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the project, learn new skills, and play an active role in the development of the institution.

With the walls now rising, the project represents another important step in strengthening the infrastructure of Don Bosco VTC Palabek and supporting its mission of providing vocational education and opportunities for young people in the region.
