Commemorating International Women’s Day 2026 _Celebrations at St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli

Every year 8th March, people across the globe unit to commemorate International Women’s Day. This significant day was designated in 1911 in Germany and the idea was conceived by a lady called Clara Zetkin who used to front women’s demands as they had always been left out. As this year’s theme of celebrating international women’s day is “GIVE TO GAIN” which highlights the power of investing in women through resources, mentorship and opportunities to create a more prosperous and equitable world for everyone.

This year’s  theme 2026 of give to gain marks 31 years since Beijing declaration and platform for action landmark commitment made by 189 nations to advance the right of women and girls worldwide. It was a declaration of hope, a global recognition that gender equality is not just women’s issues but a fundamental human right and a necessity for progress of all societies worldwide.

As per now we have witnessed undeniably progress of women and girls in our societies as more women are accessing education than ever, laws protecting against gender based violence have been strengthened and women participating in leadership and governance positions.

Students of St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli celebration began with mass that was celebrated by Fr. Oyergiu Kennedy, followed by a massive marching of staff, students with the brass band through Kamuli Town.

The celebration of this year’s International Women’s Day at St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli was supported with funding from Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt. This is part of the broader Gender Matters for Green TVET program; a four-year initiative (2023-2026) implemented in the five Don Bosco TVET Centres across Uganda and Rwanda.
