Carrier Guidance Session Empowers Trainees at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo

On June 11, 2025, the Job Service Officer Mr. Egesa Stephen at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo organized a carrier guidance session for trainees, inviting Mr. Musana Stephen, Manager of National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC) Bombo Branch, and Mr. Ochungi Geoffrey, a former trainee and current NWSC staff member.

The session aimed to empower trainees for internship and the field of work, providing valuable insights and guidance. Mr. Ochungi Geoffrey shared his life experience, highlighting the importance of technical education and skills acquisition. He emphasized that the world depends on Technology to survive and develop, and encouraged trainees to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Mr. Musana Stephen, Manager of National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC) Bombo Branch stressed the significance of Technical Education, noting that technicians are essential to society. He outlined four key aspects of a successful technician: confidence, integrity, patience, and respect. He also highlighted the problem of degree holders lacking skills in Uganda, emphasizing the importance of technical education.

The session was informative and inspiring, providing trainees with valuable guidance and motivation. The Job Service Office’s efforts to connect trainees with industry professionals and provide career guidance are crucial in preparing them for the world of work.

The trainees benefited greatly from the session, gaining insights into the importance of technical education, skills acquisition, and the qualities required to succeed in their chosen careers. The session concluded with a sense of hope and determination among the trainees, who are now better equipped to pursue their career goals.

This carrier guidance session is a testament to the Job Service Officer’s commitment to supporting trainees in their career development and preparing them for the workforce.

This initiative was made possible through funding from Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt, as part of the broader “Gender Matters for Green TVET” programme. This four-year programme, spanning 2023-2026, is being implemented in five Don Bosco TVET centres across Uganda and Rwanda, aiming to promote gender equality and green skills in technical vocational education and training.
