St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre-Kamuli Reinforces Gender Equality Through Comprehensive Policy Dissemination

In a significant step toward promoting equality, inclusiveness, and a safe learning environment, St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli successfully disseminated its Gender Policy to staff and students during a sensitization Training on 4TH June 2026.

The dissemination exercise brought together teaching and non-teaching staff, student leaders, and learners from various departments to enhance awareness and understanding of the institution’s commitment to gender equality and social inclusion.

Speaking during the training, the Project Manager Gender Matters for Green TVET emphasized that the Gender Policy provides a framework for ensuring equal opportunities for all members of the institution regardless of gender. The policy seeks to eliminate discrimination, prevent gender-based violence and harassment, and promote respect, dignity, and fairness in all institutional activities.

“The implementation of this policy is not only a requirement for good governance but also a commitment to creating a supportive environment where every student and staff member can achieve their full potential,” the Principal noted.

During the session, participants were taken through the key provisions of the policy, including gender-responsive teaching and learning practices, prevention and reporting mechanisms for sexual harassment, equal participation in leadership and decision-making, and the promotion of inclusive facilities and services.

The Gender Officer highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the successful implementation of the policy. Staff and students were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the policy guidelines and actively contribute to fostering a culture of mutual respect and non-discrimination.

Interactive discussions allowed participants to raise concerns, seek clarification, and share experiences related to gender issues within the institution. The engagement demonstrated a growing commitment among stakeholders to champion gender equality and create a more inclusive educational environment.

Students welcomed the initiative, noting that the policy provides clear guidance on their rights and responsibilities while strengthening mechanisms for protection against gender-based violence, harassment, and discrimination.

The JSO informed the students that the dissemination of the Gender Policy marks an important milestone in the institution’s efforts to mainstream gender considerations into all programs, activities, and operations. Moving forward, the institution plans to conduct continuous awareness campaigns, capacity-building activities, and monitoring initiatives to ensure effective implementation of the policy.

Through this initiative, St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli reaffirms its commitment to providing a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment that empowers both staff and students to excel academically, professionally, and socially.

The dissemination of the gender policy at St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli was supported with funding from Austrian Development Cooperation and Jugend Eine Welt. This is part of the broader Gender Matters for Green TVET program; a four-year initiative (2023-2026) implemented in the five Don Bosco TVET Centers across Uganda and Rwanda.
