ProFuturo Digital Education Program Holds Key Annual Education Stakeholders Meeting in Kigali

Kigali, Rwanda – On January 9, 2026, a crucial meeting for the ProFuturo digital education program was convened at the Don Bosco Hospitality Centre in Kigali. The meeting brought together ProFuturo Coaches, school directors, and the management of the Salesian Planning and Development Office (PDO) to evaluate the initiative’s current progress and address future strategies.

The ProFuturo program, a global initiative by the Telefónica Foundation and “La Caixa” Foundation, aims to narrow the education gap by providing quality digital education in vulnerable environments.

In Rwanda, the Salesians of Don Bosco are implementing the program in 50 schools, equipping them with digital tools, training teachers, and providing access to digital content.

Mr. Dominique Uwarugira, the ProFuturo Project Coordinator in Rwanda, chaired the meeting, emphasizing the opportune time to share the current implementation progress, challenges, and existing gaps.

“We hope to reach very far during our exercise of our daily activity… and change the education of Rwanda to be more better than the previous time,” Uwarugira noted, reflecting on past successes in training students and teachers to use digital tools effectively.

Father Servilien Ufitamahoro, the Salesian Provincial Economer and Director of the AGL PDO, also spoke, stressing the importance of the project in bridging the digital divide. The program is closely aligned with the Rwandan government’s vision of integrating technology into education.

He said that “This year’s meeting is an opportune time for all stakeholders to evaluate and plan improvements for the new year.”

“A lot has been done, but we need to keep working hard. Thank you for your partnership to ensure this project progresses well.” He added

The discussions focused on continuous improvement, ensuring that the program remains sustainable and effective in the new year. The meeting underscored the collective commitment to leveraging digital education as a game-changer for the country’s youth and economic development.
