Empowering Vulnerable Youths: The Success of Partnership and Networking in Palabek Settlement
The Job Service Office, brings out the importance of partnership and networking that exists between Don Bosco VTC Palabek and other agencies working in Palabek settlement to empower vulnerable youths, both girls and boys.
In the month of July and August, graduate in the agriculture department have been supported by AVSI under the SAY, project to start up poultry and vegetable growing projects.
These students who graduated in 2023, and had no startups, see this as an opportunity for them to grew, progress as well as employ other graduates who didn’t get this opportunity. They promised to work hard and develop the projects given to them.
As they receive the start-ups, they promised to apply the knowledge they got through the training on Business skills and entrepreneurial skills. In 2023, June, all the students of Don Bosco Palabek, were trained by JA in Business and Enterprise selection, Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial skills that would help the students transition from school to work life after graduation.
As they hand over tools and inputs to the graduates, were urged not to sell them out as has always done by some beneficiaries within the settlement, who sell out what they have been given to them by other agencies.
The JSO appreciated the collaboration that will employ many of the graduates and benefit their families as well. He called upon them to work hard and progress as they will benefit the community as well.
The principal, also urged them to always consult in case of any challenges other than wasting out the items given to them. He also assured them of the constant monitoring and supervision that shall be under taken by the JSO and the Agriculture instructors.
As Gender Matters for Green TVET project, the graduates are supported to start up their own businesses or get employed by companies or individual business owners. The several trainings and other income generating activities are in line to help graduates out-side the TVET Centre and into the world of work.
