Don Bosco Tech Africa & PDO conclude intensive training to advance TVET Quality standardization across centers in Rwanda

From 28th March to the 1st April, A five-day macro-level training on quality standardization in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at country level, organized by Don Bosco Tech Africa in partnership with the Salesians of Don Bosco in AGL specifically in Rwanda, has successfully concluded at Don Bosco Gatenga. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from various Don Bosco centers with a shared goal of strengthening and aligning TVET systems to international Quality Management System (QMS) benchmarks.

The training served as a strategic platform for deepening participants’ understanding of quality assurance, institutional standardization, and continuous improvement processes. Throughout the five days, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises aimed at building a common framework for quality management across all Don Bosco centers.

Key areas covered during the workshop included the development and implementation of standard operating procedures, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, documentation practices, and the integration of continuous improvement strategies within TVET institutions. The sessions also emphasized the importance of leadership commitment and staff involvement in sustaining quality standards.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the facilitator Rene David highlighted the progress made during the training and the importance of translating knowledge into action.

This training was not only about understanding standards but about creating a shared vision for quality across all our centers. The real impact will be seen in how each participant applies these principles within their institutions. Quality is a continuous journey that requires commitment, teamwork, and accountability,” said David.

The Participants expressed strong appreciation for the depth and practical nature of the training. Sister Leocadie Nyanzira a participant described the workshop as both enlightening and empowering.

The training has been extremely insightful. It has helped me understand how to structure processes within my institution and ensure that quality is maintained at every level. I am leaving with practical tools and a clear action plan to implement what I have learned,” she noted.

She further emphasized that the knowledge gained would not only benefit staff but also significantly improve the learning experience of students.

“When systems are well organized and standardized, it creates a better environment for both trainers and learners. This will ultimately lead to improved performance and better opportunities for our graduates.”

Constantin Muhingabo another participant echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the collaborative learning experience.

“One of the most valuable aspects of this training was the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues from different centers. We were able to identify common challenges and collectively explore solutions. This kind of collaboration is essential in ensuring that we move forward together as a network,” he explained.

He also pointed out that the training has strengthened his confidence in implementing QMS in his institution.

I now have a better understanding of how to apply quality management tools in a practical way. This will help us improve efficiency, accountability, and overall performance,” he said.

Fr. Callixte Ukwitegetse, the Provincial TVET coordinator underscored the broader significance of the training, noting that standardization plays a crucial role in enhancing the credibility and recognition of TVET programs at both national and international levels.

This initiative is a key milestone in our efforts to ensure that all Don Bosco TVET centers operate under a unified quality framework. By aligning with international QMS benchmarks, we are strengthening the credibility of our programs and increasing the employability of our graduates,” he stated.

He further called on participants to act as ambassadors of change within their respective institutions.

The responsibility now lies with each of you to implement what you have learned and to support your teams in embracing these standards. Sustainable impact will depend on how well these practices are integrated into daily operations,” he added.

As the workshop comes to a close, participants are expected to return to their centers equipped with enhanced knowledge, practical tools, and renewed commitment to quality improvement. Follow-up mechanisms, including mentorship and periodic assessments, are expected to be put in place to ensure effective implementation of the standardization processes introduced during the training.

The successful conclusion of this workshop marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts by Don Bosco Tech Africa and its partners to promote excellence, consistency, and innovation in TVET delivery. By strengthening quality systems across its centers, the Don Bosco network continues to play a vital role in empowering young people with relevant skills and competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global workforce.
