Don Bosco Gatenga TSS Celebrates New Sanitary Facilities After Renovation

Kigali, Rwanda — Students and staff at Don Bosco Gatenga TSS are celebrating the successful renovation of their school toilets, a project that has significantly improved sanitation and safety standards.

Once plagued by poor conditions, the school’s previous toilets were a source of health problems and discomfort for both students and staff.

“They were unhealthy, causing infections and producing a strong bad smell,” recalled student Gikundiro Christa Bella. She expressed gratitude to the generous support of Salesian Missions-New Rochelle whose support made the renovations possible.

The new facilities now boast modern features including running water, proper cleaning standards, and separate sections for girls and boys. Notably, a dedicated girls’ room for changing sanitary pads has been introduced, ensuring a comfortable and dignified environment for female students.

“The toilets are now close to the students and meet all necessary standards,” said Uzamureba Clementine, a staff member at the school. She emphasized that the improved sanitation has helped reduce health issues and created a safer space for everyone.

Students expressed their happiness and appreciation for the donor’s contribution, hoping for continued support. “This help has made us happy and healthier,” said Emmanuel Niyonkuru, a student.

The school officials hope that such improvements will encourage better hygiene practices and foster a conducive learning environment for all students. They also look forward to welcoming the donor again in future initiatives.
