By Jules SUGIRA

On Wednesday, September6,2023, more than one hundred and fifty young people from various areas, particularly in Gikomero sector, gathered at Don Bosco Muhazi to conclude the annual Patronage Youth camp. There were a total of21 animators who were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of the children aged from 2 to 10 years old, while the second group consisted of young people aged from 10 to 20 years old.

Patronage lasted for two weeks, starting on August 21st. The daily activities took place from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The camp was held under the theme “Children growing wise, compassionate, and intelligent like Jesus Christ”. Children were taught the word of God, engage in games, songs, traditional dances, and attend lectures on children’s rights and environmental protection. Additionally, sketches were performed as part of their learning experience.

Children were requested  to seriously follow the comportments they learned from the patronage, by continuously respect their elders, avoid misbehaving like stealing, lying and Cheating, as pointed by Father Jean Bosco  while presiding over the Holy mass that concluded the patronage. He added that over all children must respect God like Jesus Christ did; by becoming good example in their neighborhood.

At the side of Children, Kubahoniyo Belize, one of the patronage participant said that they are in strong happiness from different activities they acquired.

“I am grateful because before I came here, I was very shy; but from the time I started to participate into patronage activities, I became more sociable with a lot of friends. I learned traditional dance for the first time, I know how to make a cap from banana leaves, and mostly I know the history of Jesus Christ and Don Bosco. I am going to practice the manners that we learned from here to home and at school” she added

The Holy mass was followed by applause from spectators who were watching different joyful activities from both groups, with animation songs and demonstrations like traditional dances, traditional sketches and modern dance competitions.

Through his speech, Jean Claude Ndahayo, coordinator of patronage at Don Bosco Muhazi TVET, was grateful to everyone who participated in the patronage. Especially the children and their animators.

“First of all, I thank God who helped us through this two weeks of patronage. Much appreciation to the administration of Don Bosco Muhazi TVET where daily activities were carried on. I thank the parents who allowed their children to come during this two weeks. And I implore all the children to follow the example of Jesus Christ and Don Bosco with love and care for others” said Jean Pierre Ndungutse, the director of patronage.

At the end of the ceremony, all children, animators and visitors gathered to share meal, and then each child have received two notebooks and pen as encouragement to study; since 25th September they will be starting the first term of the academic year 2023-2024.
