International Women’s Day Celebrations at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo

Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, themed “Women Empowered. Empower the World”. The eventful day began with a vibrant brass band procession, guided by the Officer Charge Traffic Bombo police station and other police officers, the students were enthusiastic and energetic while moving around Bombo Town.

After the procession, celebrations continued with exciting party games, promoting teamwork and friendship among the students. The highlight of the day was a thrilling football match between the boys and girls, demonstrating their skills and sportsmanship.

The job service officer as the master of ceremonies during the celebrations of international women’s day in his communication recognized the presence of the guest of honour, the Principal, the Deputy Principal, the Staff, the Catholic brothers and the Guild Council of Don Bosco VTC Bombo.

The Guest of Honour, Mr. Kalume Abubaker, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Katikamu South, through his representative emphasized the importance of empowering women and girls worldwide. He stressed that women are expected to do just as much as men, and it’s essential to provide them with equal opportunities and support. And to all the boys and girls, he requested them to use discipline always portrayed in sports and games as another life skill for survival and connecting with the world of work.

The Principal was excited to celebrate the special day with all the young women and girls at Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre. He acknowledged the incredible progress made towards gender equality and empowerment, while also recognizing the work still to be done. To the young women and girls, he emphasized that they are the backbone of the society.

The Deputy Principal encouraged young women to pursue education and careers in male-dominated fields like plumbing, building, and electrical installation. He implored them to always aim at becoming role-models in society like the first female vice president of Uganda, the first female speaker of parliament and many others in the country.

The Gender Officer, who organized the celebrations, shared inspiring words about growing up as young women, highlighting the challenges and opportunities they face.

The event was a resounding success. Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality, inspiring the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
